Workspaces & Storage

Draft

This documentation is in draft and under active review. Figures for the Fall 2026 GPU reservation system are not yet published, and some pages describe behavior that has not been verified against a primary source. Confirm any figure with parasol@ucsd.edu before relying on it.

A workspace is the unit that governs rosters, storage, images, GPU access, and quotas. Start here to find out which workspaces you belong to, where your files are stored, and how to move and share data.

Page Covers
What a Workspace Is and What It Controls What a workspace covers and controls, provisioning, workspace managers, belonging to several workspaces, choosing a workspace in the browser and on the command line, and missing workspaces.
Directories, Quotas & Cleaning Up The directories in a session, workspace and personal quotas, checking usage, causes of and recovery from a full quota, requesting more space, external storage, and backups.
Moving & Sharing Data Transfer routes, retrieving work before access ends, sharing within a workspace and with teams, and sharing with people who have no cluster account.
Datasets Where shared datasets are stored, finding and reading them in place, requesting a staged dataset, restricted and licensed datasets, and retention after a course.
